About
Brandon Joseph
“My directing philosophy? Believe it and Become it!”
I’m stepping into a new chapter as a director whose work merges disciplined craft with avant-garde imagination. After years of building performing arts programs, shaping youth-driven ensembles, and developing new theatrical work across the Bay Area, I’m moving fully into a national directing identity grounded in clarity, ambition, and real momentum.
My directing pulls from a wide creative lineage: the rigor of classical text, the charge of queer nightlife performance, the immediacy of devised processes, and the cinematic precision of contemporary storytelling. I build rehearsal rooms defined by communication, psychological safety, and artistic rigor. Actors know exactly where they stand. Designers feel invited to play. Writers feel protected and empowered as their work evolves.
As a choreographer, I weave physical vocabulary that feels lived-in, emotionally intelligent, and rooted in character. My movement direction has shaped musicals, youth-devised pieces, immersive experiences, and hybrid performances that refuse to sit quietly in one genre.
As a writer, I craft new works steeped in San Francisco’s queer lineage, the humor and trauma of growing up, and the mythmaking instinct of communities fighting to be seen. My scripts explore identity, place, lineage, and the strange, electric theater of being alive.
I’m a Bay Area artist with national reach, and I’m ready for institution-level rooms, professional ensembles, and the new-works pipeline shaping contemporary American theater. If you’re dreaming up a project or building something new, reach out. Let’s talk theatre.
